When someone invites you to “put your legs under a table,” around here, they are inviting you to lunch in that perhaps slightly blunt but definitely friendly way that Emilians have in their DNA.
This story begins with exactly that: a lunch, an accepted invitation, a table shared with some Conad partners, and a bottle of Anastasi to drink together.
The story of Anastasi is beautiful, and so it feels natural to tell it to them, just as I will now tell it to you.
Anastasi is our desire to “give back”: to return a portion of what we have been given, of all the kindness we have received over these years.
It was born in a moment of general crisis, the pandemic of March 2020, one of those moments when the temptation to despair and complain is so strong. So strong that it deserved a decisive gesture to push it away.
Thus, challenged by our winemaker Attilio Pagli and his brilliant intuition, Anastasi was born: a bottle-refermented Sorbara, limited edition, 700 unique pieces of a one-of-a-kind wine: a cuvée of 100% Sorbara, 50% from the 2017 harvest that rested for two years in a tonneau, and 50% from 2019.
Right from the start, this project also infected our collaborators, suppliers, and customers.
To this was added the decision of Marta, the daughter of some friends of ours, who wanted to contribute by giving us all her savings, telling us: “It is more blessed to give than to receive.”
At that moment, we decided that all proceeds from the sale of Anastasi would go to the Banco Alimentare (Food Bank), to begin "giving back," as it were.
This is the story we tell our guests.
At first, they are surprised and moved, then they surprise and move us:
“I want 100 bottles,” “I’ll buy 50 too.”
We remain speechless for a moment, then, honestly, we get emotional.
It is a beautiful gesture, perhaps not by chance happening right there with our legs under the table at an Emilian lunch.
The Bologna partners decided to turn Anastasi into the best possible gift for their friends and customers, but above all for us and for the Banco Alimentare.
I believe this story needed to be told, perhaps because it is a story of the table and of wine, of Emilia and of beautiful things that happen and warm your heart.
